Empowering through Diversity and Inclusion

Originally posted February 9, 2019.

Engagement is such an important factor in an organization. It goes hand in hand with diversity & inclusion. According to HRDive, “that interaction of diversity, inclusion, engagement and VoE (the voice of the employee) in your workforce factors into what’s needed to build a company culture that thrives”.

We’ve heard the numbers regarding diversity & inclusion. We know that organizations with a more diverse & inclusive workforce drive higher financial returns. According to McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), there are two key findings: gender-diverse companies are more likely to perform 15% better and ethnically-diverse companies are more likely to perform 35% better.

Unconscious bias is another component of diversity & inclusion. Unconscious bias has been a topic that I’ve been very interested about and have a passion for exploring its affects on the workplace. I’ve been very fortunate to present this topic to a number of groups. Here are just a few reasons why we should care about Unconscious Bias: it is destructive for those who apply them as well as those being judged based on stereotypes, drives us to make decisions every day in favor of one group, and to the detriment of others, without even realizing we are doing it, and it has a huge impact towards an organization’s culture.

These are just a few things related to diversity & inclusion. I highly recommend checking the following site https://www.workhuman.com/diversity-and-inclusion/. This li nk will provide you with the WorkHuman Content Track: Empowering through Diversity and Equality. The track addresses gender pay gap, the missing piece in diversity and inclusion, HR’s role in responding to #MeToo, enabling cultural fluency, including inclusion, effectively connecting across cultures, etc.

This is my first WorkHuman conference. I’ve heard wonderful things about this conference and am looking forward to attending. I’m super excited to hear from Viola Davis, George Clooney, Geena Davis, and many more. I hope that you can attend.
